Recently the State of Illinois made alterations to the newly adopted A17.1.2019 code to include testing of fire alarm initiating devices (FAID) once every 5 years. If the elevator has smoke detectors, flow switches or other devices that send it into Fireman’s Emergency Recall, they will need to be tested by your fire company and witnessed by the elevator inspector. City of Chicago is excluded from this mandate.
Initially the deadline for compliance of this test was December 31, 2023 for hydraulic elevators and completion at the time of the first Category 5 test, after January 1, 2023, for traction cars.
We plan to coordinate scheduling of this test for our maintenance customers as part of their regularly scheduled CAT 1 and CAT 5 testing this year.
